CHOOSE YOUR FIGHTER We all know the choice in the 2024 election: One led by an aspiring dictator and one fueled by hope, change, and a core belief that everyone deserves a shot to get ahead.Welcome to the most high-stakes Choose Your Own Adventure ever. Which issue would you like to learn more about? Democracy Abortion Economy Housing Climate Presidential Players Kamala Harris Donald Trump Round One Democracy The right to vote is something you will be voting on this year. How meta! It is vital that the next president take steps to secure our elections and restore voting rights for the disenfranchised. Here’s what each candidate would do. Kamala Harris Not only believes in the continuation of democracy (something not all candidates can agree on, unfortunately), but supports the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act, legislation to enshrine voting rights protections, expand vote-by-mail and early voting, and more. Harris was a vocal opponent of the Citizens United decision and cosponsored an amendment to overturn it. The bill from Schoolhouse Rock would be proud. Donald Trump Shocker, the guy behind the insurrection doesn’t rly care about the continuation of democracy. He even told supporters that if they vote for him this year, they may never have to vote again. Hm. Recap: Trump incited an attack against the seat of American democracy on January 6th. His supporters planned on overthrowing election results and some even aimed to attack and kill government officials – including Trump’s Vice President Mike Pence. His Project 2025 would go even further – it’s a sweeping takeover of the federal government to consolidate power under himself. Trump has famously cozied up to dictators around the world while in office…and has implied he would like to become one himself! He has refused to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election…January 6th, deja vu. Round Two Abortion Pop quiz: Name a law or policy that regulates what a man does with his body. Yeah, exactly! The next president will play a critical role in determining the future of abortion freedom in this country. Here’s what each candidate would do on reproductive rights in the United States. Kamala Harris As Vice President, Harris led the administration’s fight to defend abortion freedom and protect the privacy of patients and providers Harris will work to reinstate Roe v. Wade and fight state laws that violate the constitutional right to abortion. She’ll also reduce the high maternal mortality rate, which disproportionately affects Black women. Donald Trump Killed Roe v. Wade, bragged about it, and has plans for a national abortion ban and surveillance state to track pregnant people and their doctors. Has stated that women who receive abortions should face “some form of punishment.” Woof. Plans to continue to pack the Supreme Court and lower court with his anti-choice weirdos. Freaks and geeks y’all, and not in the cult classic TV show way. Round Three Economy It’s the economy, stupid (That’s a Jim Carville quote. We know you’re really smart). Here’s how each candidate plans to address the kitchen table topic itself: America’s economy. Kamala Harris As Vice President and Attorney General of California, Harris lowered drug prices and capped insulin costs. Double the success, double the savings. As VP, helped cancel $7B in medical debt for 3M Americans and as president would cancel more. Will instate a ban on price gouging for groceries and food, a cap on prescription drug costs, a Child Tax Credit that would provide $6,000 per child to families for the first year of a baby’s life (It’s a boy, it’s a girl, it’s a tax credit to help you save money!) Will continue to stand up for the little guy (and gal, and every person) by checking the abuse of corporate power over labor and holding corporate executives personally accountable for violations of labor laws. Don, if you’re as rich as you claim, you better watch out. Donald Trump Has said that he’ll “be cutting” Medicare and Social Security” As president, will cut taxes for corporations and the wealthy (again) including himself…how convenient. He plans to offset them with increased taxes on the middle class. Asked Big Oil executives to give his campaign money in exchange for rolled back regulations and lower taxes. Stands firmly in opposition to student debt relief and as president would keep working to eliminate public student loan forgiveness. Round Four Housing You don’t need to look at your rent bill or mortgage to know the housing market is in a rough state. Home sales hit historic lows last year. For too many people, the American dream feels like something you can’t even afford in your sleep. Here are the candidates’ plans to make it better…or worse…for you and your family. Kamala Harris Brokered an historic national foreclosure agreement for homeowners after the housing market crash. Plans to give $41 billion to local governments to build 3 million new, affordable homes in her first term Will provide a $25,000 benefit to help first-time buyers with down payments Will outlaw price fixing by corporate landlords to help out renters. Unfortunately, cannot legally mandate your roommate to not leave dirty dishes in the sink – but would if she could! Donald Trump You can build hotels, but that doesn’t mean you’re good at housing. Pledges to deport undocumented immigrants…to fix the housing crisis? Repeatedly asked Congress to cut spending on federal housing programs that help low-income families pay rent. Oh and we should mention a majority of recently-polled, top economists think Trump’s economic plans would lead to higher interest rates. Good job, Donny. Round Five Climate For future generations, the next president will have to take bold steps to protect us and the planet we live on. Here’s how each candidate plans to deal with the challenge. Kamala Harris As Vice President, she cast the tie-breaking vote to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest investment in climate action in history. Also as VP, worked to provide $1 billion to states experiencing extreme heat and flooding because of climate change. Policies include taking action against corporate polluters and helping industrial workers transition to jobs in a sustainable economy. Donald Trump As president, rolled back more than 125 policies that aimed to protect the environment and lower carbon emissions. Called climate change “a hoax” Put climate deniers and fossil fuel lobbyists in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency Also pushed for more oil pipelines like the Dakota Access Pipeline and the Keystone XL. Suggested that the best way to handle hurricanes was to nuke them….no, unfortunately, that’s not a joke. Ready Player Two Tim Walz J.D. Vance Every Presidential candidate needs their Player Two: their Vice Presidential pick. With VP Harris picking Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Donald Trump picking Ohio Senator JD Vance, It’s Coach vs. Couch (lover). Tim Walz Former teacher and football coach who led his school’s Gay-Straight Alliance. Governor who fought to get every student in Minnesota free lunch Actually likes cats and has his own! J.D. Vance Believes that abortion laws don’t need rape and incest exceptions and compared abortion to slavery Basically what happens when you mix Mountain Dew and racism Describes women without children as ‘childless cat ladies’ NOW WHAT? I want to volunteer I want to vote I want to donate I want to take action on climate
